The Management Committee of VRQ have been manning a flood relief hub at the XXXX Clubhouse at Ballymore since the floods started to recede on Friday 14th January 2011.
We have in the initial stages provided manpower to help victims at their houses with cleaning and removing rubbish.
Through Jane Davie, (VRQ's Greg Cree's partner) and her involvement a community organisation, Bakedrelief.org, which has directed all of their donations to us we now have evolved to providing a hub for donations, of food for both volunteers and victims, This has happened as we have the capacity to store and distribute as necessary. Thanks to Tim Kirkup from Fisher & Paykel for the refrigeration and laundry means.
Brent Hosken, one of the Goodna Gaiters has established a hub at Goodna, in a friend’s house. This is one of the worst hit, and less affluent areas. We have been able to send out to him on a daily basis sufficient donations to keep all of the people coming to him fed. This has been happening everyday for 10 days and on most days up to 12 hours.
We have now progressed further to collecting and distributing basic household needs.
