OFFICIAL VETERANS RUGBY QLD REFEREE'S

It has been said that "the game's not the same without the man in the middle".

This is true of all team games, but in Rugby, the referee has two tasks, one to administer the gamw according to the laws, two, to ensure the game is played "in the Spirit of Rugby".

In Veterans Rugby, we believe that the second task is even more important than the first. It is at our level of playing Rugby that the "SPIRIT" is what it's all about.

So we at Veterans Rugby Queensland view refereeing in the "Spirit" as essential and welcome to our ranks anyone, youthful or "mature" who wants to be a referee.

HERE'S HOW TO BE A REFEREE

Contact the VRQ Referee Liason Officer, Bob Whiteman, at rwhit51@bigpond.net.au or your local Veterans Rugby Club on this VRQ website.

We have a minium qualification requirement of a Smart Rugby Course. These are held frequently by the QRU and consists of a two hour field session. It is desirable and preferable that referee's also hold a Level One Accreditation. This course can be completed online at www.qru.com.au/education and can be done in stages at your conveinence. Obviously, playing experience is important but not absolutely neccessary. We also offer mentoring for new referees and regular "ref's meetings".

ON THE FIELD

Veterans Rugby is played on a "friendly" basis where teams invite others over for a game and a barbie afterwards. The "home" team organizes a referee as the games are not played as part of a competition with appointed referees. We also referee at regular local, state and international festivals.

"Refereeing is a great way to maintain your involvement in Rugby!"
